Planet Earth

The Discovery Channel now has a new series airing for the next 5 weeks rightly dubbed, “Planet Earth“. The series which is filmed entirely in High Definition took 3 – 4 years to film and another year to compile. TDC put a lot of effort into advertising the series which got me excited not only because I appreciate God’s creation but I also enjoy Science and the complexity of our ecosystem which only further proves that God created us.
The last episode to air was “Oceans” which studied creatures that live in the depths of the Ocean so far down that man and light cannot reach. The majority of the species that live in the depths are invertebrate that at first glance you would wonder why their existence is even needed, but they are the cleansers of the Ocean. Bacteria, carcasses, etc is what feeds them. One species (I’ll retrieve the name later) looks like a human heart but unfolds into an octagon with luminescent lights at each tip to lure prey in, what an amazing creature.
At first, I was worried that the series would be inundated with evolutionary “facts”, but to my surprise I only heard two references in 3 hours. If you cannot view this series TDC has Planet Earth on DVD and Blu-Ray.
